1955 - Holman's House of Maps is founded

In the heart of Albuquerque, New Mexico, E.S. and Mary Holman embarked on a journey that would leave a lasting mark on the local professional community. At 401 Wyoming Blvd. NE, they founded Holman’s House of Maps, a specialized store catering to the needs of architects, contractors, engineers, and surveyors.

What began as a modest shop quickly became an essential resource, offering a curated selection of maps, technical books, drafting tools, and art supplies. With a commitment to quality and service, the Holmans built more than just a business—they created a trusted hub for professionals shaping the city’s landscape.

1966 - A Humble Beginning and a Key Addition

Nestled on the corner of Copper and Wyoming Blvd. in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Holman’s House of Maps operated out of a small metal building, unassuming in appearance but brimming with essential tools for architects, contractors, engineers, and surveyors. Despite its modest size, the store quickly became a cornerstone for professionals seeking high-quality maps, technical books, and drafting supplies.

Amid this growing enterprise, a new chapter began when A.T. (Tony) Trujillo joined the retail store. With dedication and a keen understanding of the industry, Tony became an integral part of the business, helping to shape its future and strengthen its reputation within the community.

1970 - Embracing High-End Surveying Instruments

By 1970, Holman’s House of Maps took a significant step forward in the world of surveying by expanding its inventory to include high-end surveying instruments. This marked the arrival of the first Electronic Distance Meter (EDM), a groundbreaking tool that brought new levels of accuracy and efficiency to the field. Partnering with trusted brands like Wild and Sokkia, Holman’s provided professionals with state-of-the-art technology to enhance their work.

1971 - Total Station

The momentum continued in 1971 with the introduction of the Total Station, a revolutionary instrument that could record both distance and angle measurements—a game-changer for architects, engineers, and surveyors. This innovation further cemented Holman’s reputation as a leader in bringing advanced surveying solutions to the region.
